Hannibal, Missouri

While we were in Missouri for the first time, I really wanted to visit Hannibal, Missouri and I’m so glad we did!  We had a great time walking around the town and exploring all the fun buildings and little hints of Mark Twain’s books throughout.  I had read both Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn early that year, and was so excited to see the town!  The day we visited the weather was hot hot hot, I mean it was probably at least 100 degrees outside.  Therefore, when we found Becky’s Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor we felt like we hit gold!  We both had the most yummy chocolate malts.  Just what we needed to fuel the rest of our exploration on this toasty day.

One of my favorite excerpts from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer:  “Shortly Tom came upon the juvenile pariah of the village, Huckleberry Finn, son of the town drunkard. Huckleberry was cordially hated and dreaded by all the mothers of the town, because he was idle, and lawless, and vulgar and bad — and because all their children admired him so, and delighted in his forbidden society, and wished they dared to be like him. Tom was like the rest of the respectable boys, in that he envied Huckleberry his gaudy outcast condition, and was under strict orders not to play with him. So he played with him every time he got a chance.”
