SEPTEMBER 2, 2010 – Chicago, Illinois
On our “Lakes and Lighthouses” adventure, we finally got to visit the grand city of Chicago for the first time. We had a full day to spend, and tried to see as much as we possibly could.
We bought an unlimited one day pass for the ‘El Train’, or their subway system, and that was one of the best parts of the day. It was our first time on a subway, and we loved being able to travel that way, as we watched the endless traffic stalled while we zoomed by.
Our priorities on this trip were Millineum Park (which has its own blog post of images), Buckingham Fountain and generally walking around the downtown area and taking in the noise and buildings. We did completely tire out about 6pm and had to go back to the hotel and pass out, so we didn’t get to see Chicago at nighttime. But we shall have to visit again in the future!
I couldn’t get enough of photographing the word ‘Chicago’ whenever we found it!
On each of our trips, we choose one city to have our one grand meal. So on this vacation, we of course chose Chicago as our city and a deep dish pizza as our meal! We went to Lou Malnati’s and split the yummiest pepperoni pizza.
Buckingham Fountain was quite a gorgeous stop on our tour of the city. I especially enjoyed the fairy women sculptures and the fish fountains in the fountain.
I am always excited to see a photography museum, but the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago was quite a letdown. Unwelcoming and not much to see. Still, it was a quick detour out of the rain.
