SEPTEMBER 3, 2010 – COLUMBUS, OHIO
There was a ton to do in Columbus, Ohio, but due to time constraints we mainly spent time at the Capitol Building (images in the previous blog post), the Santa Maria Replica Ship and the quirky Topiary Garden. Overall, we really liked this city!
After seeing the capitol building, we then visited the Santa Maria Replica Ship in Columbus. The inside was closed, but we enjoyed walking around it and that part of the city was lovely.
We then visited the Topiary Garden.
I’m not sure if it was because of the time of year we visited, but it wasn’t very impressive to see. But I could definitely image it in its full glory during less hot times of year. There were plenty of metal sculptures that were empty of any greenery around the whole park, and I bet it’s just gorgeous when in bloom. We did see a few great figures, and I especially liked the boats of the little pond.
It was the first time we’d seen a topiary garden in person, and I can really see the appeal. As a gardener, I would love to have a shrub or two I myself could prune into an awesome shape like a cat… Maybe in the future for me! There was one dog figure, but he wasn’t looking to good then and I didn’t see any cats.
